Jen has a really relaxed, friendly demeanor, and she took the time to connect to my particular health issues. I felt looked after and cared for, and after the massage she followed up with me by email, with advice for how to improve the injured areas she'd worked on.
Her massage technique combines slow, smooth motions with a simultaneous strength, getting into the deep tissue while preserving a sense of peace and relaxation.
One particular problem I had going into the massage was a rotator cuff injury that had happened several months before; and we spent a few minutes talking about it. She impressed me with her knowledge of anatomy; and with her ability to explain to me exactly how the muscles, bone, and tissue of that part of the body fit together. It seemed to me that she had a strong anatomical understanding that informed her massage techniques.
I was also impressed by her fee structure. Her web site makes clear that no tip is desired; so I didn't have to go through the usual anxiety of wondering how much to give at the end. And she offers a variety of ways to lower the cost of the session, by bringing my own supplies. I haven't seen any other massage therapist with such a clear and well-thought-out approach to the fee structure. It put me at ease and made me feel like I really understood the relationship, and there wouldn't be any unexpected confusion.
Overall, I highly recommend Jen. The massage felt absolutely wonderful, the atmosphere of her studio was very warm and friendly and open, and she herself is a calm, relaxed person who is a delight to be around. I'm planning to send my father over to her for a massage as well, the next time he comes to town for a visit.
Spending an hour on Jen's massage table is one of the most relaxing ways I can imagine to spend an hour. Before my massage, Jen took the time to find out what specifically I was hoping to work on during our session, and asked me questions that yielded information I wouldn't have thought to include on my own. After my massage, I felt so blissed out and relaxed!
I recently purchased an online coupon for a massage with someone else, and after spending 50 minutes on their table, it actually felt like a waste of time, let alone money. It was a lesson in "you get what you pay for."
